The Ford City Library is partnering with the You Will Rise Project to offer a groundbreaking anti-bullying program to local youth. The program, entitled Art Against Bullying, will be a weekend workshop where local youth, aged 11-20, will have a chance to explore the themes of bullying and self-esteem through various artistic techniques and media. The art will then be exhibited at the library. The exhibition will kick off with a reception, open to the public.

The You Will Rise Project was co-founded by Ohio artists Paul Richmond and Linda Regula, both of whom will be traveling to Ford City to present the workshop. You Will Rise was created to give a voice to all individuals who have been a victim of bullying, and encourages participants to create projects in various artistic and written forms.

The Art against Bullying workshop will be held on August 8 from 3 pm to 8 pm, and August 9 from 10 am to 3 pm. All materials will be provided to participants. The works will then be exhibited at the library for the rest of August. The exhibit will be kicked off with a public reception on August 9 from 7 pm to 9 pm.

The Mid-Armstrong Computer Club meets the second Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Kittanning Public Library, 280 N. Jefferson St. in Kittanning. Anyone 16 or older having an interest in personal computers is welcome to attend and join. Guests are welcome to attend two meetings free of charge, then if they wish to continue attending they must become a member and pay dues from $10 down to $1 depending on the month they join. Membership renewal is then $10 per calendar year. The purpose of the club is to learn personal computing by sharing knowledge among the members. The library computer with a projector and large screen gives all members a clear view of what is happening on the screen as we demonstrate use of various computer programs.

Calling all teens who love zombies! We are offering a weekend workshop that will allow you the chance to learn how to write, act, produce, and edit your own original short zombie film! This program is open to teens ages 14-19.

The workshop weekend will be held at the Crooked Creek Environmental Learning Center. Teens will arrive at the ELC at noon on Saturday for registration, and the workshop will progress all day. The goal is for the teens to write their script, act out their movie, and edit the film footage in time for a midnight showing of their masterpiece. The group will then screen other classic zombie films during an all-night marathon, before departing . The workshop runs from noon on August 16 to 10 am August 17.

Meals will be provided, but teens are encouraged to bring snacks in addition. Teens should also bring a sleeping bag, laptops, props, and extra clothes that can be used as costumes for filming.

Registration is required, as spots are limited. Registration paperwork can be obtained at the library; it must be completed and returned to the library by Friday, August 15th.
