Established in 1923, the Kittanning Public Library is the second oldest in Armstrong County. The library is located at 280 North Jefferson Street. It serves the residents of Kittanning, West Kittanning, Applewold and the surrounding areas. For individuals and families living outside of the above mentioned boroughs, a membership can be purchased for $25.00 per year for your household, $10.00 for senior citizens. Your library card can be used at Ford City, Worthington, and Apollo Libraries as well.
The library offers a collection of approximately 25,000 items, including large print, children’s and teen books. Patrons may choose from a selection of more than 2000 DVDs (a nominal fee applies), local newspapers, popular magazines, and audio books are available.
The Kittanning Public Library exists to be a window to the larger world by providing for the informational, educational, cultural and recreational needs of the community. The Kittanning Public Library works to meet this mission by providing an organized collection of print, multimedia and electronic resources. The library shall actively encourage the use of its materials, seek to keep the community informed of resources available, and foster the intellectual growth, character, and cohesiveness of the community.
About the Library
The Kittanning Library is located at 218 N. Jefferson Street in Kittanning, PA, 16201. We sit nestled between the St. John's Lutheran church and the corner house. We are a red brick building and our new additional awning will allow people to easily distinguish us. Our hours of operation are as follows:
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 11- 7pm
Thursday and Friday 10 am- 5 pm
Saturday 9 am - 4pm
Even though we close, you can still access your account online at our website by signing into the catalog. You can renew and submit request through your account. You can also drop off materials through our convenient book drop off located outside in our doorway.
Where Are We Located
Residents of the boroughs of Kittanning, West Kittanning, and Applewold receive a "free" library membership with a blue Access PA sticker. These boroughs financially support Kittanning Public Library with local tax dollars. The Access PA sticker allows you to obtain a library card from participating libraries across PA. Non-residents can join the library simply by paying an annual fee. A library membership fees are as follows for non-residents:
$25.00 - non resident fee
$10.00- non resident Veterans (individuals active duty, Reserve or retired Military with Valid I.D. are eligible for a discount annual membership)
$5.00 - non resident Summer Membership (starts June 1st until August 31st)
$10.00- non-resident Seniors (for individuals 62 years or older are eligible for a discounted annual membership)
How to get a library card
The library is more than "just books". We offer a variety of materials such as DVDs, audio books, magazines and inter library loan request made here at your Home library. We also have electronic resources database accessible even at home. We offer FREE downloadable eBooks and audio books through our Overdrive app, Mango Languages app, Power Library and Power Kids with books and activities.
