Armstrong County Libraries
Welcome to Armstrong County Libraries!
We are made up of Apollo Memorial Library, Freeport Area Library, Ford City Public Library, Kittanning Public Library, Leechburg Public Library, and Worthington-West Franklin Public Library.
While we collaborate together to support the needs of our communities, we operate as independent libraries and are not a county system. Please contact your local library for more information on what is required for a library card, donations, programs, and more as they differ for each one.

Who can use the libraries?
Anyone! Regardless of where you live, you can attend programs, utilize services, and get a library card to check out materials from any library in Armstrong County. Additionally, if you are a member at one Armstrong County library, you can join any other library in the county at no cost (*each membership will require a separate sign up and library card).

Who is eligible for a free library membership?
Residents within a library's official service area are not charged an out-of-pocket membership fee. Service areas include geographic regions and/or municipalities which financially support their local library through tax monies. Currently, the following municipalities fund their local library:
Apollo Borough and North Apollo Borough (Apollo Memorial Library)
Ford City Borough (Ford City Public Library)
Applewold Borough, West Kittanning Borough, and Kittanning Borough (Kittanning Public Library)
Leechburg School District (Leechburg Public Library)
Worthington Borough and West Franklin Township (Worthington-West Franklin Community Library)

Why do I have to pay an annual fee for my library membership?
If your address is outside the bounds of the above municipalities, your local library likely charges an annual out-of-pocket membership fee (contact your library for details). Unfortunately, our libraries do not receive any county funding, and funding at the local level is up to your municipal supervisors and taxpayers. If you believe your municipality should support free access to your local library, let them know!
